Dreams Of Depression And Drowning
Over the past fifty years of interpreting dreams, I cannot remember a single person of whom I have interpreted dreams for or discussed dreams with who hasn’t experienced at least one dream of having been nearly drowning.
To better understand drowning or coming close to drowning in dreams, you must first understand what WATER actually means in drowning dreams and dreams in general.
Clean, Clear Water Clean, clear water represents God, the Holy Spirit, forgiveness, compassion, purity of heart, physical and spiritual cleansing and healing. However, in some dreams water is symbolic of obstacles, difficult challenges and tests. In these types of dreams, the width of the area of the water determines the time frame or how long the dreamer will challenged. While the depth of the water body determines the extent of difficulty the test, obstacle, challenge or setback will have for the dreamer.
In most dreams involving drowning, the challenge or test that caused the dream relates to emotional, material, health and or unanswered spiritual questions. Conversely, it is not uncommon for dreams of drowning to affect our personal and financial lives, as a result of problematic situations that we find ourselves feeling trapped in and have not be able to find answer or solution.
One major reason for the dreamer to dream he is drowning, is under water or being pulled under water and helpless to reach the surface represents a dilemma in the dreamer’s family, health, emotions, relationships, career or finances that is materialized in a dream of the dreamer portrayed as physically drowning in water. Similarly, emptiness, self-pity, sorrow, remorse, grief, abandonment, loneliness, giving up, depression, escape, emotional stress and spiritual emptiness in their lives often results in the dreamer experiencing dreams of drowning.
For The Christian: Although Christians and non Christians both can experience dreams of drowning for the same reasons, for the most part, when the average balanced Christian has a dream other than the ones mentioned represents a different set of challenges. These challenges can involve blessings or gifts that God is about to bestow upon them. Often, the blessing or gift will be determined by how well or to what degree the dreamer overcomes the challenge or testing of faith acted out in the dream.
In the same way, as with a non Christian, the Christian can also experience dreams of drowning because of backsliding, temptation or falling back into a bad relationship or an old habit and the dream of drowning is symbolic of God calling the Christian to repentance.
For the dreamer to be dreaming he is drowning yet, somehow manages by his own strength and determination to pull himself back up to the surface represents that despite the magnitude of the obstacle, problem or pressure he is feeling or facing in the natural world, he will find an answer or solution, and find a way to resolve the problem restoring his life back to normal.
To Dive Into Clean Clear Water, to dive into clear water and the dreamer can see the bottom represents spiritual strength, stability, a self starter, creative thinker, foresight and the ability to plan ahead.
To Dive Into Dirty Murky Water For the dreamer to dive into dirty or murky water where he cannot see the bottom represents someone too headstrong, illogical who acts with abandon, and this dreamer does not think ahead or plans ahead for the future. The message of the dream is a reality check for one who is quite self-centered, prideful, selfish, thinking only of himself, what he wants, not thinking to consider others or their feelings.
For the dreamer to dream he is drowning or under the water or being pulled under Dirty or Murky water in a dream represents that he is involved in one or more of the following: guilt, lies, deceit, illusion, betrayal, back stabbing, gossip, secrets, manipulation of someone, sexual bondage/addiction, bad habits, or a hidden agenda and the guilty feelings or the emotion of the fear of being discovered is surfacing in his dream in the form of him drowning or almost drowning portrayed in a dream.
