Brainwave Entrainment: A Shortcut Path Of Meditation

Gaining momentum and becoming more well known in the area of brain/mind technology is what has been coined brainwave entrainment. All over the world various self improvement enthusiasts, as well as neurologists and psychologists, and medical personnel, are beginning to incorporate brainwave entrainment into their work. Some are also figuring out that brainwave entrainment is an alternative to meditation and/or that it enhances their existing meditation practice. The most common form of brainwave entrainment, but perhaps not yet too well known in mainstream society, is the use of binaural beats and isochronic tones.

Binaural beats and isochronic are sound frequencies that you listen to, and they entrain your brain with a tremendously powerful impact on your thinking and life. By themselves they are not musical sounding. Rather they are heard as a constant pulsing or beating sound (or warbling sound in the case of binaural beats). It is this constant beating sound in the ears that causes the brain to become entrained.

There are other forms of brainwave entrainment such as the use of flashing light in light glasses which come with light and sound machine devices otherwise known as mind machines. It is a form of brainwave entrainment. But flashing light presents a danger to those who are either prone to epilepsy or wearing a pacemaker. Binaural beats and isochronic tones are safer to use.

Although brainwave entrainment in the form of listening to binaural beats or isochronic tones is not extremely well-known it has none the less been gaining ground and will probably become more popular as we move deeper into the 21th century and people start looking for faster ways to experience the benefits of meditation while bypassing traditional meditation methods which can become tedious at times.

Let us look at how brainwave entrainment and meditation relate to one another. Scientifically speaking meditation basically alters ones brainwaves. Different brainwave states are associated with different benefits and experiences. For example when your mind is racing, stressed, unable to relax or be still, perhaps caught in emotional turmoil, arguing, hating, bitter, screaming, or confused, racing a zillion miles a second etc., you are probably plugged into a brainwave state at the beta or even gamma levels.

After a lot of practice, sometimes after years or even decades of practice, it becomes easier and easier to reach alpha, theta, and delta levels consciously (and reap the benefits) during meditation. Or, it can happen sooner by simply listening to cds or mp3s (regularly) embedded with binaural beats or isochronic tones.

Just like meditation brainwave entrainment means health to the brain hence health to the body, mind and soul. Both lead the mind from a active beta level to alpha, theta, and even delta levels where massive benefits are reaped as far as rejuvenation, emotional cleansing (unloading of the subconscious), mental openness, and spiritual awakening. Imagine reaching this deep level consciously at least once a day. This is different than sleep although a deep dreamless sleep every night is very similar. (Too bad most of us rarely reach a deep level of conscious cleansing sleep ” but that is another subject).

Of course you probably already know about other methods people have used over the centuries for attaining to higher and more rejuvenating states of consciousness. It is all for the purpose of brainwave entrainment ” forcing the brainwaves to flow in tune with the entrainment method used whether it be used for reaching the alpha, theta, or delta brainwave states.

A shortcut method of meditation is that of simply listening daily to brainwave mp3s or cd’s which are embedded with binaural beats or isochronic tones, preferably with stereo headphones for optimal results. This is meditation made easy. In fact brainwave entrainment is a new method of meditation for most people even though it has been around for while. It is gaining momentum.

It has been scientifically documented that periods of regular brainwave entrainment by means of listening to cds or mp3′s embedded with binaural beats or isochronic tones can lead to an increase in overall emotional calmness, relaxation, deep inner peace, intelligence, creativity, focus mental clarity, memory improvement, raising energy levels, raising your IQ, and reducing stress. These are the same benefits one experiences during meditation.

But nothing will happen if you dont give it a try. You really dont need to know all the mechanics about how this process works and the why of it all. Actual experience is key. And it takes no longer than twenty or thirty minutes to 1 hour a day. My preferred time is during those early morning hours when I briefly wake up, but am still at an alpha relaxed level. I slip on the headphones and listen to a session. I also like a mid day break when I listen to a session. Although nothing dramatic may happen right away, or for weeks, nevertheless you will notice that even when you are not listening to your sessions you notice your dreams are becoming more lucid, there is work going on underneath, the frequencies are working but you may not perceive anything extremely obvious right away (although some people do). It depends upon the individual and the wiring of your brain.

As a finale note there are companies here and there selling brainwave related mp3s and cds. Some are very expensive and come with programs where they only send you the first cd which you have to use for several weeks before they send you the next cd. By the time the program is over you may have spent a few years and a few thousand dollars on the cds. Other programs will offer you quality mp3s or cds for a couple hundred dollars. And there are yet others which are also high quality, but way more affordable for the average person. Choose wisely, do some comparing until you find what is more affordable for you and fits best into your needs.
